A simple overview of what a global chat is, how linker routes messages, and how delivery now reaches the source server first before premium and free servers.
A global chat connects multiple Discord servers into one shared conversation. Instead of joining many servers to talk with new people, users can chat from their own server's global chat channel and meet users from other communities using linker.
From one message to a network of servers, this is the message flow.
Step 1
An admin enables a global chat with /gc set and chooses the channel.
Step 2
linker checks permissions and moderation rules before sending messages.
Step 3
Messages are delivered to the source server first, then premium servers, then free servers.
Step 4
Users can configure profile and stat preferences with /settings.
Each server can pick the style that matches its community.
embed)Rich messages with extra context and linker formatting. Best if you want a clean, structured feed.
plaintext)Messages are sent through webhooks as plain text for a more native chat look.
DisplayName (@username)/gc set and set your channel and preferred mode./server to verify your current gc mode./settings to manage visibility and profile preferences.linker includes permission checks and moderation safeguards. If required permissions are missing, a global chat can pause until setup is corrected.
Normal global chat messages work in both modes. Reply messages are temporarily disabled while reply handling is being reworked.
This helps keep message flow stable and reduces abuse across connected communities.
Users can choose whether their profile is public or private and control how their global chat stats are displayed.
Users can also delete their stored profile data directly via the profile command.
